Applied Image Processing and Machine Learning: a Multidisciplinary Perspective

Summary

Image processing techniques are receiving increasing interest because of their different applications in the fields of medical imaging, remote-sensing, satellites and space, security, video processing, games, content-based image retrieval, etc. Machine learning algorithms are also becoming increasingly important in real-life applications that deal with classification, verification, optimisation, prediction, etc. This talk will focus on recent advances in both disciplines and will pay special attention to the challenges and opportunities facing the integration of learning algorithms in the design and implementation of automatic and/or real-time imaging systems. The talk will also provide a brief description for the state-of-the-art and will identify open research problems that need to be resolved along with some future research directions.
