[Book Chapters] AI&Big Data 2018 : Artificial Intelligence and Big Data’s Potential for Disruptive Innovation
Announced by: Prof. Moses Strydom on Tuesday, 30 October 2018

"The rise of artificial intelligence and robotics is what we define as a mega-trend, a structural shift that is fundamentally transforming the global economy in a way that could have significant repercussions for the long term. The mass adoption of robots, automation and artificial intelligence could represent a fourth industrial revolution after steam, mass production and electronics". (The World Economic Forum, n.d.)

Currently, big data and artificial intelligence are acknowledged to be the most promising technologies that organizations can exploit to be contextually and technologically relevant.
Big data and artificial intelligence will assure that organizations make intelligent decisions based on available, historical information, yet understand the necessity of a synergy and interdependence of these technologies.

By the same token, artificial intelligence is not a revolution. It is a disruption. At once rapid, violent and ineluctable, the period in which we are propelled by technological progress is also incredibly prolific and propitious. All things are disruptable: from businesses and their services, but also our work models, our values and even our own substance as human beings. Faced with the power of this artificial intelligence wave, like a tsunami, sweeping all through its passage, it is urgent to understand the dynamics and new codes required by the disruption, and to accordingly adapt ourselves.

Advances in these domains additionally hold the potential to reshape, fundamentally, the manner in which we live and work. Improvements in productivity and efficiency, driven by the spread of these technologies, were widely predictable, yet there is no ecumenical consensus about what this can mean for our daily lives, both social and professional.

OBJECTIVES
Big data and artificial intelligence are at the forefront of technological advances that represent a potential transformational mega-trend, a new multipolar and innovative disruption. These technologies, and their associated management paradigm, are already rapidly impacting many industries and occupations, while in some sectors the change is just beginning. Innovating ahead of emerging technologies is the new imperative for any organization that aspires to succeed in the next decade. Albeit, few enterprise organisations know how to successfully implement disruptive innovation on the exponential curve of the big data curve.
This book intends to fill this intellectual lacuna by:
* discerning the dynamics that engender disruption,
* explaining the production of new and innovative technologies, that is, artificial intelligence which ultimately challenge us, homo sapiens, apropos an extremely sensitive theme; our inherent intelligence,
* appreciating, pursuing and permitting the new organizational models, the culture and the requirements of this new paradigm to achieve its goals.
* being cognizant of the state of mind, aspirations and techniques of these new professional actors of disruption, prima facie illimitable and arriving in infinite droves.

TARGET AUDIENCE
The potential of big data is impacting all sectors, from healthcare to energy and transport, from finance and insurance to retail. It has assumed a disruptive, ubiquitous macrocosm, and its positive transformational potential has already been acknowledged in multitudinous key sectors.

It has as objective to amalgamate data owners, data analysts, skilled data professionals, cloud service providers, companies from industry, venture capitalists, entrepreneurs, research institutions and universities and will be useful to participants from both the industry and academia working in all the domains of big data, artificial intelligence, robotics and engineering, as well as all other target audience, including:
Knowledge management,
Big data governance,
Data- and prosperity-driven innovation,
Smart tourism,
Productivity 4.0,
Industry 4.0,
Manufacturing 4.0,
