Abstract In this paper we study and evaluate the mechanisms for organization of the clusters in wireless sensor networks (WSN). After the short introduction to these systems we present and analyze the mechanism currently used for cluster organization in the WSN. Based on the conducted analysis we investigate an approach to improve this mechanism. Besides that we propose two different routing approaches for better distribution of the information in these networks, so that a stable state of the system can be maintained for a longer period of time. In the last part of the paper we present the results of the conducted series of simulations with the different mechanisms for organization of the clusters and we compare and evaluate them.
