Abstract In this paper, the performance of MIMO-OFDM system with different joint transmit and receive antenna selection and coding techniques are explored. Two different selection types all-tone and hybrid antenna selections are employed with convolutional coding (CC), low density parity check (LDPC) coding and space-time block coding (STBC) algorithms. We consider Rayleigh frequency selective fading channel, and only receiver is assumed to have perfect channel state information (CSI). Computer simulations show antenna selection improves error performance significantly by achieving diversity. As our simulation results verify the performance improvements, antenna selection technique will definitely appear in Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) and Long Term Evolution (LTE) standards.
