Biography
Dr. Sanjaykumar G. Sonar has completed his graduation in Civil Engineering in 1999 and Post Graduation in Town & Country Planning in 2003 from Government College of Engineering, Pune (COEP). Subsequently, Dr. Sonar joined Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee in 2004 to pursue Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Urban Planning under Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India assistance-ship and completed the same in 2007.
Dr. Sonar started his professional carrier as a Site Engineer in a small construction firm; however, changed his carrier path from Engineering to Planning field after acquiring higher qualification in the said discipline. His first engagement in the Planning Profession was as an Assistant Director (Planning) in Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Delhi, wherein he has handled various planning assignments. Subsequently, he moved to Mumbai to join Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) as a Town Planner, wherein he has handled various infrastructure projects. After serving in MMRDA, Dr. Sonar moved to his alma matter, i.e. COEP to serve as a faculty in Civil Engineering Department; wherein, he is mainly associated with Under Graduate and Post Graduate Programme in Town & Country Planning.
Dr. Sonar is member of various Professional Bodies and Institutes and actively involved in their professional activities. He is a member of various Institutes and Professional Bodies, such as, Institute of Engineers, Institute of Town Planners, India, Institute of Urban Transport (India), Indian Water Resources Society, Indian Society for Wind Engineering, etc. Dr. Sonar has published many research papers in various reputed journals and conference proceedings. He has also co-authored a book on Regional Planning.
