Extending the absorption bandwidth and enhancing the absorption are important factors for optical applications such as photodetectors and solar cells. This work proposes a structure that is formed of a 3x3 cluster of nanodiscs (ND) having various diameters. Each nanodisc resonates at a certain wavelength, and the response of the whole cluster will cover wider bandwidth compared to that having nanodiscs of similar sizes. The periodic unit cell of the 3x3 nanodiscs structure is used with the CST microwave studio suite in the simulations. The results showed that the obtained wavelength coverage extended from 800nm to 1500nm; moreover, the average absorbed power in a-Si has been enhanced by 3.9 times compared to the case without the nano-discs structure.
