A simple microstrip monopole antenna designed on a full ground plane is introduced for fifth-generation sub-6 GHz applications. The designed antenna can have both frequency and pattern reconfigurability by changing the location of an ideal diode connecting a circular parasitic element to the main patch. Dual and triple frequency bands can be obtained in terms of frequency diversity and different orientations to the radiation pattern major lobe are achieved. Ten resonant frequencies for the four circular parasitic locations are reported all have different pattern shapes and orientations. The antenna has a peak gain of 5.88 dB at 6.78 GHz and bandwidth ranges from 130 – 380 MHz.
