Abstract In this paper, we propose and investigate a simple, low-complexity and deterministic cooperative protocol that exploits Network Coding (NC) within a wireless network. The scenario under investigation is for N sources 'partners' send their information packets to a common destination node D and to each others over a wireless AWGN channels. The traffic among nodes and destination can be significantly reduced resulting in energy savings of a node overhears and combines N-1 packets from different nodes in a simple and deterministic way before it forwards them to the destination. The key problem we try to address is how PUM Torbo Code behaves in such scenario, the capacity and the data rate when applying NC over Amplify and Forward (AF) or Decoding-and-re-encoding (DF) systems. The proposed scenario shows that NC improves significantly the data rate as gaining valuable diversity and robustness at relatively small loss in Bit Error Rate (BER), i.e. reduces the number of transmission time slots and saving the power without losing robustness at low cost of BER loss. . Finally, we introduce a scalable design shows the trade-off for transmission time slots, and data rate with the BER, complexity and the channel capacity, based on the number of combined partners’ packets PC per transmission time slot.
