In this article, we studied a wavelet compression algorithm based on quadtree algorithm for lossy compression. Our algorithm is simple and fast, it used a quadtree representation of image coefficients decomposed in subbands.
The results obtained by this new approach in terms of PSNR and compression ratio are improved compared to EZW algorithm. Finally, our results are comparable to those obtained by the algorithms SPIHT and JPEG 2000.
