Due to its possible capability to improve traffic management and safety on the road, Vehicular Ad hoc Network (VANET) gets increasing attention from the academia and industries. Since the information transmitted over a vehicular network is sensitive and can affect important safety decisions, VANETs can easily be a target of various types of security attacks. DOS and distributed Denial of Service (DDOS) are rapidly growing problems in VANETs and are a bit different types of attack because they can be done without penetrating the target network. In this paper, we explore DOS in VANET to propose a taxonomy to identify the attacker, their capabilities, the target, vulnerability used for attack, and the impact on the victim.
