Several previous studies have proposed new Backoff algorithms to minimize the collisions and their consequent effects in a Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET). Reduction of such collisions results in a better allocation of medium channel resources between nodes. To some extent, some of these studies were successful in achieving such reduction. However, a room for improvement is still available. As a result, we propose a new Backoff algorithm which could reduce the additional collisions in MANET more effectively. We call our new algorithm the Easy Exponential Backoff (EEB) algorithm. A comparison between our proposed algorithm and other standard Medium Access Control (MAC) layers has been demonstrated in this study. Simulations using our new proposed algorithm have shown promising results that outperformed those obtained using standard MAC layers for different densities at different node speeds.
