Title Investigation of horizontal and vertical handoff in mobile networks
Authors Dr. Farhad E. Mahmood, University of Mosul, Mosul, Iraq
Abstract The aim of this paper is to investigate and simulate the handoff in wireless mobile network using MATLAB 7.4 program. There are two types of handoff: Horizontal handoff between two same wireless mobile network technologies, and Vertical handoff between two different wireless mobile network technologies. The results showed that vertical handoff is done near access point due to power and antenna height in access point is less than in base station. But vertical handoff will maintain the throughput stable, when the MS move away from access point to base station . The effect of user speed on throughput also studied.
