Remote Seminar - Making agriculture smarter – the role of IoT |
Announced by: Dr. Mohammad M. Banat on Thursday, 26 November 2020
|
You are cordially invited to the Mosharaka Remote Seminar with the below details at 11:00 (GMT+2) on Monday 30 November 2020. If you know other colleagues who may be interested in joining us at the Seminar, please send me their email addresses, or ask them to email me. Thank you.
Making agriculture smarter – the role of IoT
Internet of Thongs (IoT) has made it presence felt by distrusting many traditional industrial and generic industries through its wide application acceptability. Agriculture is not an exception at all. It is stated by various agencies that the compound annual growth rate for connected agriculture market will be around 20% within the next few years. The need for higher productivity and yield per area in the agriculture sector is an essential requirement with the ever increasing world population level. IoT based concepts and products are one of the innovative solutions in increasing the agriculture productivity and yield. The major challenges faced by the agriculture industry are the unstable climatic conditions and environmental impact due to many manmade and natural phenomena’s. IoT based solutions can support the industry by reducing these challenges and helping us to meet the demand for more food in the coming years. The major challenges faced by the IoT solution providers in the faster implementations of IoT solutions is the lack constant and reliable communication network in the lesser developed regions.
The introduction of sensors into the agriculture industry was the stepping stone to all IoT solutions. With the introduction of IoT and cellular networks supported with rapid developments in the sensors technology helped easy implementation of industrial IoT solutions in the far reaching regions also. The speed at which industrial IoT find its importance in agriculture made it name as the second wave of green revolution. The number of farmers adapting IoT solutions is increasing day by day across the globe due to support its provides to the farmers in decision making with accurate data supported with increasing yield per area while reducing the cost per area. Smart farming and precision agriculture are moved from a concept to a reality among the farmers while high tech farming is on its way to become a standard. Some of the major solutions are monitoring climatic changes, precision farming, smart greenhouse, smart agriculture, crop management, cattle management, agriculture drones, and predictive analytics.
The implementation of industrial IoT supported agriculture helped to implement supporting system to the time tested traditional knowledge to increase the yield per area while reducing cost per area. The bridge between the production and quality and quantity is reducing at a drastic pace due to the implementation of these solutions..
