Biography Amir Ghatefar is a Structural Engineer in the Bridge and Structures team at WSP, Winnipeg office. He is also collaborating with the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Manitoba as an adjunct professor. Amir carried out his Ph.D. research work in Structural/Bridge Engineering at the University of Manitoba (2011-2015) and then worked as a Bridge Research Engineer at Centre for Structural Innovation and Monitoring Technologies Inc. (SIMTReC), formerly known as ISIS Canada Resource Centre, in Winnipeg before joining WSP. Amir has significant experience across a wide range of different projects related to bridge structural conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design; Structural Health Monitoring (SHM); and structural inspection, evaluation, and rehabilitation. His main experience is focused on four areas: Reinforced Concrete (RC) structures, particularly their durability, construction, design, field/large-scale testing and remote monitoring using fiber optic sensors; the application of Finite Element (FE) and computational methods in material and structural engineering; the development of innovative systems intended to improve the performance of the conventional masonry, steel, and concrete structures; and Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) application in concrete structures subjected to severe environmental conditions (Freeze/Thaw, Wet/Dry, and Fire Exposure). Amir’s professional multi-discipline industrial and research career has included 10 conference presentations, 6 first-author journals and 1 book publication in bridge engineering.
