Biography
I have been an Assistant Professor in Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) since October, 2013. The Department has been accredited by ABET since 2006. I have taught the following courses: (1) Machine Design, (2) Manufacturing Processes, (3) Product Design, (4) CAD/CAM (a newly developed course) and (5) Mechanics of Composite Materials (a newly developed course). I have worked on various collaborative research projects with a total fund of 112,000 USD with (PI) & (co-PI) roles. Areas of my research interests include drillstring fatigue failure, nanocomposite for enhance oil and gas drilling at high temperature and pressure conditions and behavior of glass-reinforced epoxy pipes in harsh conditions in oil and gas applications.
I was the Chair of Information and Communication Technology, (2015-2017), the Coordinator for Final Year Design Projects (2014-2017), the Advisor for the Society of Mechanical Engineering (2015-2017) and the Coordinator of Industrial Advisory Board Committee, (2017-Present). I have also served on numerous committees on Departmental, College and University levels.
As an Instructor at Dalhousie University in (2010-2013) and Lecturer (2007-2008), I taught (1) Stress Analysis, (2) Mechanical Design, (3) Manufacturing Processes and Materials (with emphasis on CAM), (4) Engineering Design and Graphics (CAD) and (5) Mechanics of Materials (course curriculum was re-developed as a result of new accreditation guidelines published by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB)). Most of these courses were delivered throughout theoretical and hands-on teaching and learning approach. Design Project Based Learning (DPBL) and Industry Visits greatly contributed to the success of this approach.
I am a Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in NS, Canada. This represents the highest standards of engineering knowledge, experience and professionalism. It also demonstrates personal commitment to engineering excellence and showcases my skills, education and attitude to be a responsible professional.
In addition to my teaching and research skills, I have (7+ years) of professional industrial experience in several supervisory and management capacities that provided me with the opportunity to develop wide knowledge and flexibility in diverse roles and lead highly motivated multidisciplinary teams.
