Professor Barnes joined King’s College London as chair in September 2015, having held chair positions at other universities since 2005. He gained a first-class BSc in Economics from UCL (with three major awards) and a PhD from Manchester Business School examining the implementation of Case Mix in the UK NHS (Tom Lupton and ESRC Scholarships). A polymath, Stuart is opposed to disciplinary silos and enjoys working across several academic disciplines. His research has involved collaboration and engagement with many types of businesses and government. He is the founder and director of CODA, an interdisciplinary research centre focused on data analytics, including AI. He gave a keynote speech at IMCO-DSM-WG at the European Parliament in 2017. Stuart reviews for more than a dozen international research grant bodies. His research interests include data analytics, digital marketing, technological innovation, consumer/user psychology and behavior, and technology acceptance and use. Recent research projects have focused on sustainability and health analytics. He is Co-PI in two data analytics-focused research grants for the NNSF in China and was Co-I for a digital sustainability-focused grant for Swedish Research Council. Stuart has published five books and more than 200 research articles (Google Scholar h-index: 49).
