Biography
Dr. Ahmad N. Al-Omari is a Full Professor, Academic Quality Consultant, and Vice Chair of the Institutional Accreditation at the Community College of Qatar (CCQ). With over two decades of experience in higher education and engineering, Dr. Al-Omari has built a distinguished career that bridges academic leadership, research excellence, and quality assurance in education.
He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering in 2006 from Colorado State University, USA, where he also completed his M.Sc. in 2002. He holds a B.Sc. in Electronics Engineering (1995) from the Hijjawi Faculty for Engineering Technology at Yarmouk University in Jordan. His doctoral research focused on high-speed vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs)—a field in which he remains an active and recognized expert.
Throughout his 25-year career, Dr. Al-Omari has held multiple leadership roles in higher education. At CCQ, he has served as Dean of the Science and Technology Division and Chair of both the Engineering and Information Technology Departments. He is also the founding architect of CCQ’s Engineering Technology Department, which established the college’s flagship bachelor's programs in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Technology—developed to align with national workforce priorities. Earlier in his career, he served as a cleanroom manager and postdoctoral researcher at Colorado State University and as Department Chair and faculty member at Yarmouk University.
Dr. Al-Omari is widely engaged in international academic and professional communities. He is a longstanding member of several organizations, including the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the IEEE Photonics Society, the IEEE Technology and Engineering Management Society, Eta Kappa Nu Honor Society, the Optical Society of America (OSA), and the Jordanian Engineers Association. He has also held memberships in the IEEE Electron Devices and Communications Societies.
He has served on the technical and scientific committees of more than 30 international conferences, contributed to the peer review of academic programs and faculty promotion files, and played advisory roles in accreditation and quality assurance across the region.
As a scholar, Dr. Al-Omari has published in peer-reviewed journals and regularly reviews manuscripts for leading international publications such as IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices, OSA Optics Express, SPIE Optical Engineering, IET Optoelectronics, among others.
His work has earned him several distinctions, including a DARPA-funded research project on high-speed VCSELs, a research grant from Colorado State University, and graduate scholarships from Yarmouk University. He was awarded the Best Paper Award at the 19th International Conference on Nanoelectronics Engineering and Devices, and the Distinction in Scientific Research Award from Yarmouk University.
