Modeling, Simulation, and AI Applications in Nuclear Energy Systems Safety, Security, and Risk-Informed Decision-Making in Nuclear Operations
Biography
Muhannad A. Alghamdi is a master’s student in Nuclear Engineering at King Saud University, Saudi Arabia. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering from King Abdulaziz University in 2022, graduating with Second Honors, and is a member of the Saudi Council of Engineers.
His research interests include Monte Carlo radiation transport modelling, radiation protection, and shielding optimization, particularly for portable industrial radiography systems. His work involves evaluating collimator materials and generating spatial dose distributions to support radiation-dose assessment and the application of the as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA) principle. His broader academic interests encompass nuclear safety, radiation detection, nuclear physics simulations, and non-destructive testing.
Alghamdi received first place in the Nuclear Engineering Section of the 8th International Undergraduate Research Competition and an award in the Innovations Section of King Abdulaziz University’s 11th Scientific Forum. His technical projects include developing a 3D-printed ionization chamber detector and investigating gamma-ray computed tomography for industrial inspection. He completed training at the International Institute of Nuclear Energy in France through King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy, as well as at the Nuclear Science Institute at King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology. His technical skills include scientific programming, data analysis, and three-dimensional modelling, supporting his interest in connecting computational methods with practical radiation protection applications.
