Biography
Prof. Stelios Tsitsos was born in Greece in 1966. He graduated with a first class Honours Degree from the Democritus University of Thrace, Department of Electrical Engineering, in October 1989. In November 1991 he was awarded the M.Sc Degree in Telecommunications Engineering and Digital Electronics from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), UK. In December 1994 he was awarded the Ph.D Degree after conducting research on the development of numerical and experimental methods analysing and optimising microwave power dividers.
After his military service in the Greek Army he worked as a Research Associate at UMIST from October 1996 to March 1999, conducting research on the design and optimisation of ceramic filters for mobile phones, funded by TDK Corporation, Japan.
From July 1999 March 2002 he worked for the Greek Telecommunications Organisation (O.T.E. S.A.) as a Senior Telecommunications Engineer, in the radio networks planning department.
In April 2002 he was appointed a Lecturer in the Department of Informatics and Communications, at the Technological and Educational Institute of Central Macedonia (Serres), Greece, where he was promoted to Assistant Professor in January 2006, to Associate Professor in 2010 and to Full Professor in 2017. He served as Head of the Department (2006–2010), Director of the Telecommunications and Networks Group and also as Deputy Director of the School of Applied Technology. Currently, Prof. Tsitsos is the Director of the MSc Course “Telecommunications and Computer Networks”. He is the author and co-author of several scientific and technical papers and also a reviewer in various international journals and conferences. He participated in various research projects either as a Principal Investigator or as a member of the main research team. He also participated in the ITU-R study groups as a representative of the Greek Telecommunications Organisation (O.T.E. S.A.). His main research interests are focused in the design of microwave devices and sub-systems for wireless, cellular and portable computer applications.
Prof. Tsitsos was a scholarship recipient of the “Alexander S. Onassis”, Public Benefit Foundation, Greece and the EPSRC (UK) during his postgraduate studies. He is also a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE), and IEEE (USA).
