Biography
Rebeca P. Díaz Redondo is a Telecommunications Engineer from the University of Vigo (1997) with a PhD in Telecommunications Engineering from the same university (2002) and an Associate Professor at the Telematics Engineering Department at the University of Vigo. Her research interests have evolved from the application of semantic reasoning techniques in the field of Interactive Digital TV applications (like t-learning, t-goverment or TV-recommender systems) to other content characterization techniques based on collaborative labelling. She is interested in applying social mining and data analysis techniques to characterize the behavior of users and communities to design solutions in learning, smart cities and business areas. Additionally, she is currently working on defining appropriate architectures for distributed and collaborative data analysis, especially thought for IoT solutions, where computation must be on the edge of the network (Fog Computing).
Regarding her teaching activity, Rebeca gives classes at the Higher Technical School of Telecommunications Engineering at the University of Vigo to: undergraduate students (Telecommunications Engineering), master students (Master of Telematics Engineering and Master of Telecommunications Engineering); and PhD students (PhD Programme in Information and Communications Technology). She has supervised eleven PhD students and she is currently supervising six PhDs. She wrote two reference books for undergraduate students, one of them published and distributed by Elsevier. Finally, she is currently coordinating the Bachelor Degree on Telecommunications Engineering at the Universidade de Vigo.
Regarding the research area, Rebeca has participated in more than 40 projects and 25 works of technological transfer through contracts with companies and/or public institutions. The results of her research work were disseminated through more than 60 articles published in JCR-labelled magazines. She is currently involved in the scientific and technical activities of several national and European research & educative projects.
