I started with electrical engineering when 16 and became a M.Sc. (my thesis included building a complete lab demonstration unit for students on feed-forward control) at 22. I become a manager, inductrial applications of nuclear technology at 23 and executive engineer for electrical/automation systems, design to commissioning and maintenance setup of large controlled environment research facility at 29. Further experience included EPC industry as engineering supervisor for Bechtel Corp. and 75-people automation department manager for Kilborn Engineering, Oil&Gas as Petro-Canada lead engineer for the Montreal refinery automation and Ontario Power Generation, senior project engineer, fossil and nuclear plants. All the above plus extensive consulting work led to authoring over 100 technical and business papers and publications for journals and international conferences.
My life-long interests in project management and education started from my first engagement and when I was lecturing technicians early in my career. These interests became a passion when I got immersed in a multiplicity and variety of projects and corporate training, got involved in technical societies and took up a life-long challenge of teaching and coaching alpine skiing. I am a co-author of the International Electro-technical Commission IEC standard ‘Documentation of Application Software for Process Measurement and Control Systems and Facilities’, a Vice-Chair, Education of the Engineering and Human Environment Toronto Chapter of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers IEEE, and Education Chair and past Director of the Management Division of the International Society of Automation ISA.
Upon my early retirement in 2003 I launched Nutshellmodels.com dedicated to achieving major cost and time savings in project management and education via smart simplifications ("nutshell models"). I also write a bilingual Polish/English column in the Nowy Kurier/Polish-Canadian Independent Courier.
