Biography
Marijana Zekic-Susac was graduated in 1990 at University of Osijek, major Economics Cybernetics. She completed her master in 1995, and doctorate in 2000 at University of Zagreb, Faculty of Organization and Informatics Varazdin, Croatia, with Information sciences major. She is employed at Faculty of Economics in Osijek, University of Osijek since 1991, at first as a young researcher, then as an assistant (1996-2001), senior assistant (2001-2003), assistant professor (2003-2007), associate professor (2007-2012), and full professor (2012-) in the area of social sciences, scientific field information sciences, scientific branch information systems and informatology.
She was the leader of two short-term projects financed by the Ministry of Science and Technology („Neural networks in finance and investments (1996-1998), Web entrepreneurship portal (2000-2003)), and collaborator at several long-term projects. She was the mentor in 10 master theses and more than 30 bachelor theses.
Her professional development includes 6-month predoctoral research in 1997 in USA at University of Stanford and University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, seminar „Unsupervised learning“ in 1999 at Dagstuhl, Germany, seminar „EUROBASES databases" at Brussells 1992. and „Authentic leadership“ course at University of Naropa, Boulder, USA.
Her area of research is artificial intelligence and its application, especially neural networks, decision trees, support vector machines and other datamining methods and its application in business decision making, as well as in education and medicine. She is a member of few professional associations such as International Neural Networks Society (INNS), Association of Information Systems (AIS), and the president of Croatian Operational Research Society (since 2012). She has published four books, five chapters in edited books, and more than 40 scientific papers in journals and conference proceedings.
