Dr. Barbara Mazzolai received her Laurea degree in Biology (with Honours) from the University of Pisa, Italy in 1995. From 1994 to 1998, she worked at the Institute of Biophysics of the National Research Council on environmental topics. In 1998, she received her Master’s degree in Eco-management at Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna (SSSA), Pisa. She had a research assistant position at CRIM Lab of SSSA from 1999 to 2004. From July 2004 to October 2009, she had a temporary position of Assistant Professor in Bioengineering at SSSA. At present, she works at the Italian Institute of Technology of Genoa, Italy, as Team Leader on Micro- BioRobotics. Her main research interests are in the fields of biomimetics and biorobotics, microbiorobotics, service robotics, microsystems and sensors for environmental and agrofood applications. She was and currently is involved in many National and EU-funded projects within the V, VI, and VII Framework Programmes, as Project Manager (EMECAP, Contract N. QLK4-CT-2000-00489; DustBot, Contract N. FP6-045299; OCTOPUS, Contract N. 231608; HydroNet, Contract N. 212790).
She is Guest Co-Editor of a Special Issue on “Biologically inspired robots and mechanisms†of the International Journal Applied Bionics and Biomechanics. She has authored/co-authored more than 80 papers, appeared in international journals and conference proceedings.
She is member of the IEEE, of the Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, and of the Robotics & Automation Society.
