Dr. Abdelwahed received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Toronto, Canada, in 2002. During 2000-2001, he was a research scientist at Rockwell Scientific Company. From 2001 to 2007 he has been with the EECS Department at Vanderbilt University as a Research Assistant Professor. He is currently an Assistant Professor with the ECE Department at Mississippi State University (SMU). During his tenure at Vanderbilt University and MSU he pioneered work on model-based design of self-managing systems using control-theoretic techniques and model-integrated computing concepts. He also developed and implemented a rigorous solution for efficient hierarchical control of distributed hybrid systems that has been successfully demonstrated on a prototype model of the NASA Advanced Life Support System. He has accumulated rich experience in modeling and analysis of distributed real-time systems, automated verification, and fault diagnosis techniques. Dr. Abdelwahed prepared several successful research grant proposals to DARPA, NASA, NSF, Northrop Grumman, ERDC, and Boeing. Dr. Abdelwahed has more than 75 publications and is a senior member of the IEEE.
