Biography
Juan Martínez Romo, Ph.D. in Computer Science (Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia, UNED) and Associate Professor at the Departamento de Lenguajes y Sistemas Informáticos at UNED, in Madrid, Spain since 2007. I am member of the Natural Language Processing Group at the same University. I obtained my Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence and Computer Systems in 2010.
I am Member of the Instituto Mixto de Investigación ‐ Escuela Nacional de Sanidad (IMI‐ENS). I currently holds the position of Academic Secretary of the ETSI Informática at UNED since 2017.
I have published about 20 articles in journals indexed in the JCR, 14 of them in the first third. Several of my publications have had a great impact, being the target of multiple news (more than 50) and interviews in oral and written media (national and international). I carried out a research stay at the University of New York. I have participated in 20 research projects: 2 of them of European character financed by the European Commission; 7 of national character financed by the corresponding Ministry and the rest collaborating with companies like Motorola, Lokku and Vodafone. Precisely thanks to the relationship with these companies I have achieved an active technology transfer, reflected in three software registrations, one of them with national and international exploitation by the companies Fundación Vodafone España and COFFEE & TIPS, a utility model operated nationally by the company Fundación Vodafone España and 2 software products licensed and available on the Internet.
My primary research interests are Natural Language Processing, Biomedical Informatics, Web Spam, Information Retrieval, Social Media and technology applied to mobile devices.
