I have recently finished one year of assistant professor position at the school of Pharmacy – Alzaytoonah university of Jordan. During last year, I taught the Human Physiology courses and lab and the General Biology course for the Pharmacy students. I also participated in different academic committees at the school of Pharmacy. I participated in the social committee and in preparing for the final report for the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), the American International accreditation for pharmacy.
My teaching experience is as follows, I’m teaching the Human Physiology course and laboratory for the pharmacy students, I aim to establish the basic physiological knowledge in different human systems that are needed to build up the knowledge about the normal body functions, and how human systems are working in harmony under normal conditions to maintain the body homeostasis.
I emphasise the students’ learning through using several teaching and learning strategies that keeps student engaged in the class; at the beginning of class I clarify the purpose and learning goals for students, I measure student-learning output through quizzes and exams. I consider students’ participation in class design and structure.
In the lab, I recommend the students to work in groups for the experiments and assignments. Group work on assignments encourage students’ teamwork. Introducing challenges for students in the class through giving them tasks and homework will keep them motivated about learning. I believe in self-directed learning, I emphasize students’ use of critical thinking, problem solving and creativity in class. Using smart classroom technology helps the student to understand and to memorize the course materials. Students’ feedback is very important for improving my teaching skills. I believe that providing students with examples from our daily life teach them to connect between the theoretical and the practical implication. I like to address my personal experience from my PhD degree research into the topic I teach to encourage students to do research.
I focus on the fast and ease communication with my students, in addition to class, I use the E-learning and Open Education Resources Center provided by the campus. There I post the courses syllabus, textbooks, materials, related videos and links that enrich the learning process. I also use it to receive comments and questions from students. Providing students with office hours and email contact give them the chance to ask questions or to clarify the unclear topics.
