HALA AS’AD received her B.A.Sc. degree in biomedical engineering from the Jordan University of Science and Technology in 2010. She then pursued her M.A.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in signal processing, specializing in audio and speech processing at the University of Ottawa, Canada, completing them in 2015 and 2020, respectively. Since 2020, she has working with Ford Motor Co. in Ottawa, Canada as an audio algorithms researcher and developer. Her research interests include applied signal processing, machine learning and deep learning with emphases on audio and speech processing, array signal processing, beamforming, speech enhancement, noise reduction, acoustic source localization, hearing aids, and hands-free solutions. She has five granted patents. She has received several prestigious scholarships and awards, including the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) Scholarship, the Excellence Scholarship, the Ontario Graduate Scholarship, and the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies Dean’s Scholarship. Additionally, she serves on the Educational Board of IEEE Signal Processing Society and chairs the IEEE Women in Engineering Regional Activities subcommittee. Previously, she has also held roles as IEEE WIE Ottawa treasurer and a registration Officer.
