Biography
Dr. Luay Fraiwan is a distinguished professional in Biomedical Engineering, holding the prestigious status of IEEE Senior Member. Currently serving as a Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Jordan University of Science and Technology, he brings expertise and experience to the academic community. Dr. Fraiwan spent a significant portion of his career at Abu Dhabi University (ADU), UAE, where he served as a Professor of Biomedical Engineering from 2015 to 2023. Before his tenure at ADU, Dr. Fraiwan held the position of Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Jordan University of Science and Technology (2010-2015) and assistant professor (2005-2010). His leadership skills were evident as he took on the role of Department Chair from 2011 to 2013. Dr. Luay Fraiwan is highly educated, having earned his Doctorate and Master’s degrees in Biomedical Engineering from The University of Akron, Ohio, USA, in 2002 and 2005, respectively. Additionally, he holds a Master’s degree in Medical Imaging from Compiegne Technological University, France. His academic journey began with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Jordan University of Science and Technology in 1993.
With a focus on cutting-edge research, Dr. Fraiwan has made significant contributions to the fields of Artificial Intelligence in Medicine, Biomedical Instrumentation, and Biomedical Signal Processing. His research prowess is evident through a substantial number of high-quality publications in renowned Journals and conferences. Notable journals that have featured his work include Medical Imaging Systems, Computer Methods and Programs in Biomedicine, Methods of Information in Medicine, and Medical and Biological Computing and Engineering. In addition to his scholarly contributions, Dr. Luay Fraiwan serves as a reviewer for several esteemed journals, including Biomedical Signal Processing and Control, Computer Methods and Programs in Biomedicine, and IEEE Transactions on Health Informatics.
Beyond academia, Dr. Fraiwan has demonstrated technical expertise in medical equipment procurement and has actively participated in projects supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). His multifaceted career showcases a commitment to advancing the field of Biomedical Engineering through research, education, and practical applications.
