Command and Control in Renewable Energy Systems Renewable/Hybrid Power System Operations and Planning
Biography
Growing up in Ethiopia amid chronic power outages and unreliable electricity supply deeply motivated me to pursue a career in sustainable power systems. This personal experience sparked my strong passion for Planning, Operation and Control of Power Systems, particularly in renewable and hybrid energy solutions.
I completed my BSc in Electrical Engineering (Power) at Addis Ababa Institute of Technology. My final-year project focused on the design of a solar-wind hybrid electrification system for remote rural communities, which earned high distinction and gave me practical insight into the technical and socio-economic challenges of off-grid power systems in developing regions.
For over seven years, I have worked as Lead Electrical Engineer at Warka Engineering (and previously at Spectrum Engineering). In this role, I have led the design, optimization, and successful deployment of more than 200 kW of off-grid and hybrid solar power projects. My responsibilities included power system planning, microgrid design, resource assessment, system integration, power quality management, and real-time operation of renewable energy systems under challenging African grid conditions.
I am particularly passionate about Command and Control in Renewable Energy Systems and Renewable/Hybrid Power System Operations and Planning. I aim to develop advanced control strategies, optimization methods, and intelligent operation techniques to improve the stability, reliability, and efficiency of hybrid renewable power systems. My goal is to create scalable and resilient solutions that address intermittency, grid integration, and energy access challenges in Ethiopia and across Africa.
I am strongly committed to advancing my knowledge and skills in Power Engineering and Applications so that I can contribute meaningfully to Africa’s clean energy transition and sustainable development.
