Biography
Prof. Al-Ahmad is the Head of the Electronic Engineering Department at Khalifa University of Science, Technology and Research, UAE. His research interests are in the areas of signal processing, multimedia and engineering education. He received his Ph.D from the University of Leeds in 1984. He worked at Portsmouth University, Leeds Metropolitan University, Kuwaiti Faculty of Technological Studies and the University of Bradford. He supervised successfully 23 Ph.D and Master students in the UK and UAE. He delivered short courses and seminars in Europe and the Middle East. He has published over 60 papers in international conferences and journals and he hold a UK patent. He has served as chairman and member of the technical program committees of many international conferences. He is a senior member of the IEEE and member of the Signal Processing, Communication, Computer, Engineering Management and Education Societies. He is also a Fellow of the IET, Chartered Engineer, Member of the British Computer Society, Chartered IT Professional, Fellow of the British Royal Photographic Society, Accredited Senior Imaging Scientist. He was a secretary and a founder member of the Kuwaiti IEEE section. He is the Chairman and founder member of the UAE IEEE Computer Chapter, Vice Chairman of the UAE IEEE Signal Processing and Communication Chapter and a member of the executive committee of the UAE IEEE section. He is also the Vice Chairman of the Middle East section of BCS The Chartered Institute for IT.
