Biography
Mohammad S Alfiad was born in Zarqa, Jordan in 1982. He received the B.Sc degree in electronics and communications engineering from the Jordan University of Science and Technology in 2005. In 2007 he received the M.Sc. in broad band telecommunication (with honors) from the Eindhoven University of Technology, The Netherlands. His master theses research was carried out in the labs of Siemens AG (currently Nokia Siemens Networks) in Munich, Germany. The topic of his master thesis was MLSE for optical phase-shift keyed modulation formats.
Since 2007 he is working towards his Ph.D. in the Eindhoven University of Technology in cooperation with Nokia Siemens Networks in Munich, Germany. His research focuses on optical multilevel modulation formats for robust long-haul high capacity transmission.
He has authored and co-authored eight invited papers, 10 scientific journal papers and more than 20 conference papers. His papers to the OFC conferences of 2008 and 2009 were rewarded the second place in the Corning best student paper award. In 2009 he obtained the Nokia Siemens networks quality award and in 2010 he received the telecommunication award from the royal Dutch engineering society (KIVI-NIRIA) and the IEEE/photonics graduate student fellowship.
