At each conference, and based on paper review scores, the paper with the highest scores receives the Best Paper Award. This is an award to which only presented papers are eligible. The best paper award is usually delivered to the presenter of the winning paper at the main conference dinner. |

A Silent Revolution of Computer Science: How It Now Dominates All Other Disciplines |
Summary | | Computer Science (CS) has quietly found its way into nearly all other engineering and scientific disciplines. The tools and methods developed in CS fuels ongoing digitalization and virtualization of the world. CS now plays a central role in research similar to the central role assumed by a financial sector in the countries' economy. The research methods and strategies are increasingly relying on mathematical and computational models and computer simulations. In this talk, I will outline basic strategies developed for solving computational problems in software engineering, and point out how they can be used to solve other more general research problems. In addition, I will point out how programming languages are closely related to mathematical modeling, which can be also exploited in developing novel research methods. |

Dr. Pavel Loskot, ZJU-UIUC Institute, Haining, China | Pavel Loskot joined the ZJU-UIUC Institute in January 2021 as Associate Professor after working 14 years at Swansea University, College of Engineering in the UK. He received his PhD degree in Wireless Communications from the University of Alberta in Canada, and the MSc and BSc degrees in Radioelectronics and Biomedical Electronics, respectively, from the Czech Technical University of Prague in the Czech Republic. He is the Senior Member of the IEEE, Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in the UK, and the Recognized Research Supervisor of the UK Council for Graduate Education. His current research interests involve mathematical modeling, statistical signal processing and classical machine learning for multi-sensor data in biomedicine, wireless communications and intelligent transport. |
