Abstract One of the major performance aspects to be monitored in any core network is the end-to-end delay. This depends on the end-to-end IP technology used rather IPv4 or IPv6; also it will be changed in case of using mobile IP. This paper focuses on real-time traffic performance under different core network technologies. From the end user operation point of view; core network technology is transparent with respect to the end user mobile protocol. Using MIPv4 and MIPv6 will be studied on IP backbone and ATM backbone; also using IPv4 backbone to support MIPv6 via tunneling is covered here.
