Spain

Spain has recently become the second most visited country in the world; mainly because of fabulous beaches, the culture, history and ancient buildings, which can be visited, and because of its marvelous weather along the year. The quality of the services presented to the tourists is very high, which makes visitors being very comfortable during their stay in the country.

Valencia

Valencia is the third city of Spain with most population. It is the capital of the Valencia Community region. It was created in 138 b. C. Its large history, its new constructions in the area of the City of Arts and Sciences and its placement in the Mediterranean Sea, with large beautiful beaches, make it unique. The culture brings the tourists to one of the most wonderful places of Spain. Moreover, the Valencian gastronomy is well known all around the world (Valencian Paella, Horchata, etc.).

New Steps for Enhancing the Usability of LPWAN Technology

Summary

When deploying wireless sensor networks (WSNs) in wild environments, it is important to consider the devices constrains in terms of power consumption, coverage, performance, or available bandwidth.

Until very recently, one of the main technologies used to deploy this type of network has been the IEEE 802.11 standard and all its variants. However, in recent years, we have witnessed the emergence of new technologies called Low-Power Wide-Area Network (LPWAN). An LPWAN is a type of wireless network designed to allow long-range communications at a low bit rate and it is characterized by its low power consumption to be able to be powered by batteries.

A current challenge in this kind of networks is the possibility of not only transmitting measured values but also small images that in some cases can help to understand the measured parameters. For this reason, this keynote aims to do a quick review of the features that LPWAN technologies offered us. We will also analyze how to interpret the environment or scenario where our systems are deployed to apply the most suitable monitoring techniques.

Special attention will be paid to the features of a picture taken by a sensor and how to extract the important information from it to be able to transmit them through the LPWAN infrastructure. This Keynote will provide interesting experiments performed with pictures and videos with different characteristics and predominant colors that can determine the type of treatment and processing to finally transmit the picture. Finally, the keynote will include a brief discussion on the challenges and open research issues in the area.
