Thermal Energy Storage
Thermal Energy Storage (ThermEnergy 2024)

Summary

The ever-increasing energy consumption, depletion of fossil fuel resources, and their detrimental impact on the environment have accelerated the demand for sustainable energy resources, such as solar, wind, tidal, and biomass. However, the mismatch between the energy supply and demand is one of the main issues in this field that can be addressed by Thermal Energy Storage (TES) systems. These systems store thermal energy by heating or cooling a storage medium so that the stored energy can be used later for heating and cooling applications and power generation. The session covers theoretical, experimental and computational research on thermal energy storage systems. The goal is to improve the TES systems and expand their industrial applications. Topics included are TES systems technologies Thermal energy storage materials PCM thermal energy storage system Applications of TES systems for power generation, solar energy, buildings, etc. Heat transfer and fluid flow in TES systems Heat transfer enhancement in TES systems Numerical modelling of TES systems Thermal energy storage system using nanofluids Enhancement of TES systems Optimisation of TES systems Performance evaluation of TES systems Process integration of TES systems

Chairperson

Mr. Mohammadreza Kadivar, Institute of Technology Sligo, Sligo, Ireland

Mohammadreza Kadivar was born in Shiraz, Iran, in 1985. He received his M.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering - energy conversion from the School of Mechanical Engineering, Shiraz University. He is currently a graduate researcher at the Institute of Technology Sligo. His specific expertise is employing experimental methods and computational fluid mechanics (CFD) to perform research that specifically targets the critical need for improved energy efficiency, storage, transport, and conversion. To achieve this, his research focuses on the fundamental science of fluid mechanics and heat transfer. He has collaborating work with research centres worldwide, such as Institute for Precision Machining (Germany), Clean Energy Research Group at Pretoria University (South Africa), and Clean Energy Processes (CEP) Laboratory at the Imperial College London (UK). Apart from research experiences, He possesses more than seven years of industrial work experience, as a mechanical engineer, in the fields of design, construction, and commissioning. Currently, He is investigating heat transfer enhancement in single- and two-phase heat exchangers using additive manufacturing at the Institute of Technology Sligo (IT Sligo).
