Wireless sensor networks have been widely developed in order to monitor the events in medical and military environments. However, many efforts have been done to design MAC and Routing protocols for these networks so the overall energy dissipation becomes minimum. LEACH structure is known as one of the energy efficient algorithms which has a distributed structure. In this paper we propose a centralized LEACH based routing algorithm namely EECCHR (Energy Efficient Centralized Clustering Routing) protocol in which the base station controls the procedure of selecting cluster heads. The results of our simulations show that by applying EECCHR and its modifications to a wireless sensor network, we could prolong the lifetime of the network by minimizing the rate of consuming energy.
