This article illustrates a design of microstrip patch antenna over perforated silicon substrate. It presents an application of micromachining technologies in the fabrication of microstrip antenna at higher frequencies. The work is intended to demonstrate that the new micromachined structure represents a powerful solution to the problems encountered by high permittivity substrate. The presented perforated antennas are designed using standard equations as well as the derived equations for synthesized permittivity calculation.
