Abstract
The paper deals with digital speech processing as it pertains to the hearing impaired persons. The work concerns the development of an optimized and reconfigurable platform based FPGA implementation.
Our work is focused in the implementation of an efficient multi level one dimension DWT on FPGA for medical hearing aid application.
Our system provides a generic testbed which allows the use of DWT analysis / synthesis with frequency shaping for noise reduction, echo cancellation and real time processing.
The FPGA design reconfigurability permits to introduce different parameters, DWT coefficients, floating to fix data coding length in the conversion process allow to give better comprehensive speech for the subject.
This new design approach implements FIR filters on FPGA to generate the overall DWT system. This architecture lets to meet further design abstraction namely the volume and area, the latency, the frequency operating and finally the power dissipation.
We present some simulation results under VHDL and Matlab. Hence, a comparative study is done to show the gain obtained by the proposed architecture.
We will illustrate that DWT design on FPGA based FIR filters using a best combination, results to an efficient system with high performance metrics.
