It has been reported that key characteristic features such as non-stationarity, long range dependency (LRD) and fat tails are present in a typical data set of router utilization. These characteristics mainly have been assessed based on
simulated data. This paper verifies the presence of the above characteristics using real data. The verification is based on qualitative analysis of router utilization data using the tools of histograms, QQ-plot and autocorrelation theory. In addition, two different real sets of user
utilization data are graphically presented along with the qualitative results of histogram, QQ-plot and autocorrelation function.
