Title Virtual instrumentation clinical PC-based pure-tone audiogram
Authors Dr. Abdul_bary Suleiman, University of Mosul, Mosul, Iraq
Abstract One major development resulting from the ubiquity of the PC is the concept of virtual instrumentation, which offers several benefits to engineers and scientists who require increased productivity, accuracy, and performance. A PC-based pure tone audiometer (PTA) working at Matlab environment was designed and implemented. Hardware and software works were carried out. Complete audio tests for air conduction, bone conduction, with and without masking can be easily done using a computer mouse through a GUI screen designed carefully to fulfill all test requirements. A standard test graph is obtained on the screen showing the tone frequency in Hz versus the tone strength in dB, for both air and bone conductions. The test results can be monitored instantly on this graph. A complete test results for the left ear and right ear can be obtained on a separate figure which can be printed, saved in database storage, or exported to other application. The result of this work is that a standard, complete, low cost, easy to use, and easy to calibrate audiometer is developed.
