Abstract
Small Internet Service Provider (ISP) and Enterprise networks are dual homed to multiple Autonomous Systems (ASs) and the routing between them is handled by the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP). The standard path attributes used by BGP are not based upon link performance. This paper discusses the mechanism to detect path performance for a prefix and suggests mechanism to identify and select next hop towards destination based upon performance attributes. This article proposes running a separate protocol to judge the link performance like delay, Jitter and Loss and based on these performance parameters manipulate the BGP attribute in such a way that the BGP route with better path performance will be installed in the routing table.
