Internet technologies and mobile computing started to converge to enable wireless Internet access through portable devices. This article represents a review of the main technological, architectural and business issues related to the existing wireless web technologies, i.e. WAP, i-mode and J2ME. It includes a critical analysis of the main assets and weaknesses of these technologies as well as their current status and the trends that affect their market share and customer basis in the foreseeable future.
