Abstract
Cognitive radio is a system which allows unlicensed user (secondary user) to transmit over the same band of the licensed user (primary user) simultaneously. This has to be done without affecting the licensed user’s performance. Different techniques are used for designing the unlicensed user’s transceiver. Interference alignment (IA) proves its superiority over these existing techniques. However, the challenge in using IA is its performance degradation with the existence of channel imperfection. In consequence, in this paper, an Interference Alignment (IA) scheme that addresses the uncertainty in the channel estimation is presented. The proposed scheme allows a secondary user equipped with multiple antennas (MIMO) to use the same frequency band already occupied by pre-existing primary user via aligning and minimizing the interference on the primary user even when no complete knowledge of the channel is available. The proposed algorithm minimizes the interference of the secondary user’s transmission on primary user. Numerical results prove the ability of the novel interference alignment scheme to preserve the primary user’s transmission rate in case of channel estimation imperfections.
